I Refuse...

The older I get the more I realize that there are happliless people who try to make my life happiless. I work very, very hard on keeping my household happy. Sure, we all have problems. This household is not perfect. But all in all I am proud of the people under this roof..my favorite 3 people in the whole world. And I hope we always strive to be happy.

Sometimes, though, it feels like people are throwing eggs at my house. Not literally, of course, but it's like some are out to make us as unhappy as they are.

Working in a pharmacy, in a public retail setting, we see all kinds. We have a whole lot of wonderful customers. But everyone knows the misserable people. Our favorite saying around the pharmacy is "It must be miserable to be so miserable". Maybe it's fun for them. Maybe they have had terrible circumstances that I will never understand. But I think that we have a God that does not want us to be miserable, no matter the circumstance. Our God does not promote dealing out misery.

Like I said, Michelle or I neither live a fairytale life. We are not happy because nothing goes wrong, we are overall happy because we chose to be. Our washer went out this past week...I was unhappy. I had to work a few extra hours last week because others were sick...unhappy. Gas is over $3 a gallon...again...unhappy. But I refuse to let any other person's unhappiness to cause me to be unhappy. I hope those miserable folks realize that I will never be as unhappy as they are. And I'll just clean the egg off my house...smiling knowing that.

Boot Camp...

So, on Monday I started working out in the mornings. I joined a fitness class and we meet 5 days a week at 5:30am! Okay, I'll admit, the first few days were hard, it is getting easier. Today I ran my first mile. I did it in 14 minutes. Not my goal, BUT, I will get there.

I am learning so much about myself from this expierence. Like, I don't like to half do something, I say go all the way, or go home. I like to keep up with the faster girls, it gives me something to try to attain. I enjoy the outdoors, even though on Wednesday it was 19 degrees when I walked on to the track. Thought I was going to freeze. Mike got me long johns and gloves for Valentine's Day! His way of supporting me and I was really excited. I have also learned that I know why people like to run. Tom and Dad have been my inspiration on those cold mornings. I admire Tom so much for his dedication to running. I am starting to understand the challenge of a marathon. So goes my life lesson. Here is my race, not always easy, but always worth it!

Opinions of a 3 year old...

Jesus attends children's church, but then he goes home. If you have him in your heart he will go home with you, otherwise, he just goes to his own home.

Jesus does not live in Alex's heart... He does however live in his belly-button and that goes ALL THE WAY UP to his neck. Alex does love Jesus and Jesus loves Alex, ALOT.

He has opionions on lots of things I am finding. He thinks the vaccum cleaner is the enemy and it is way too loud.

Police men, ALWAYS get the bad guys and the help the good guys. Papa (my dad) is a police man, he puts the bad guys in jail. Sometimes he uses his "shooter-gun", but only if he really needs to.

Doctors help you in the hopsital, but if you need something before that, you have to call a "ambalance", it will help you first. Papa works on that too. (He is learning that Papa has many hats).

Okay, so there are my "Alexisms", hope you enjoy as much as I do!

The Greatest Invention

I was reading an article in a magazine this week about great inventions. There have been alot of great inventions by many great inventors. The Wright Brothers invented the airplane, Alexander Graham Bell the telephone. Maybe the greatest innovator was Benjamin Franklin...he is credited with electricity, bifocals, and the Franklin stove (which I'd never heard of til this article).

None of these, though, in my mind are the greatest invention. By far the best invention since the caveman invented the wheel is the paid vacation. The thought of sitting at home or on the beach for a week and getting a paycheck for it. This week is one of my few vacation weeks. One that doesn't include a trip of any kind, just piddling.

I could go into my economic stimulus plan. The plan that doubles all working people's vacations. It would cause companies to hire more workers to cover vacations while taking a small amount of money from the upper class and infusing it into the middle class, not as charity but for work. The bums that chose not to work would only get poorer (which they probably deserve). The plan would decrease unemployment, strengthens the family (more home time), and makes for happier workers (which in turn are more productive).

But instead of going into detail about weird plans in my head like this, I'd like to figure out who invented the vacation and start a campaign for him or her to be included in the great names mentioned above. I salute you Mr. I invented the vacation man...you are a great American.

Happy 3rd Birthday!

My baby is turning 3! We had his party at Chuck E Cheese tonight with Axton and their friends from school. They had a blast. A great friend of mine made Alex's birthday cake, it is a Pirate Ship! It was so neat. We are so thankful for the wonderful blessing that Alex is to our lives. I can't believe that almost 3 years ago the Lord gave us such an amazing gift. He is such a funny, smart little boy. He is learning his independence and as funny as it makes him, it makes me feel a bit sad. Something in a mom's heart that knows she is watching the last of her babies grow. Thank you Lord for the amazing little boy you gave to us to raise. Happy Birthday Blondie!!
